Housekeeping job description
A housekeeper often supervises the cleaning staff within a hotel, hospital, school or another establishment. They will also keep a list of vacancies when appropriate and prepare work for their staff. They typically carry out inspections according to health and safety policies and procedures. They may be responsible for supervising and managing staff
The role usually involves report writing, managing a financial budget, attending staff meetings and providing training to staff, including demonstrating the use of equipment. Interviewing potential employees and recruiting cleaning and other staff may be part of the role. Sometime the housekeeper may not have any staff to manage
No formal educational qualifications are necessary, and training is often given as part of the job. Experience in this area of work is desirable, as is a clean personal appearance and enthusiasm for the job. Experience in managing staff and a budget is advantageous. The average salary a housekeeper can expect to earn is £16,000 per year.
Housekeepers are required to organise hotel staff to ensure all rooms are tidy and clean. They also are responsible for recruiting and training new members for the staff. These workers prepare budgets and buy supplies when necessary. They can work for residential and hotel facilities, including holiday centres, luxury health spas, small hotels, among others.
A Housekeeper usually performs many of the following tasks:

Housekeeping jobs do not frequently require academic qualifications, but many applicants have relevant experience in the hospitality industry as a minimum. Examples of specific qualifications for this area are NVQ/SVQ or GNVQ/GSVQ in Catering and Hospitality, BTEC HND/HNC in Hospitality Management, BTEC National Diploma in Hospitality Supervision, among others.
This area is open to all people over 18 years old including GCSE´s in English and Math.
