Description

Air Conditioning engineers are required to design, install, maintain and repair systems such as ventilation, refrigeration, gas, air conditioning, central heating, among others. These professionals can work at factories, schools, hospitals, offices, and shops installing different types of air conditioning systems according to customer needs in order to maintain temperature and humidity within buildings.

Air Conditioning engineers usually perform many of the following tasks:

• Inspecting air conditioning systems.
• Diagnosing faulty equipment.
• Buying materials.
• Supervising craft workers.

There is a Modern Apprenticeship that lasts three years and combines off-the-job study and on-the-job training. Employers in this industry require Standard grades (1-4) including Science, Math, English, and a technological subject. It is recommended to have a driving licence to work in different places at the same time.

People working on this area can have different awards including SVQ level 2 in Mechanical Engineering Systems. Candidates need to have a RVQ exam or Technical Certificate including basic principles like energy and environment, technology, essential calculations, electronic and controls, brazing, and refrigeration.
