Depending on the individual position, these professionals may spend much of their day providing desktop support, troubleshooting, installing servers, assessing security issues, performing network diagnostics and monitoring system performance. Support agents may be required to spend extensive periods of time on the phone or on live chats
Successful applicants for most positions will need robust knowledge of the operating system itself, as well as a good understanding of hardware and services such as HTTP, DNS and MTA. Typically, some knowledge of HTML and SQL is desirable and most candidates hold a degree in computer science, mathematics, MIS or a related discipline
The median salary for Linux professionals in the UK is £42,500, though figures can dip below £30,000 and extend to more than £60,000.

A Linux professional usually performs many of the following tasks:
