Conveyancing

Conveyancing work deals with the legal transfer of property or land from one owner to another and provides career opportunities for conveyancers, secretaries and estate agents.
Conveyancers may be either solicitors who have decided to specialise in conveyancing or conveyancers in their own right; both need to be licensed in order to work professionally, which requires passing the CLC (Council for Licensed Conveyancers) exams. Licensed conveyancers generally earn between £20,000 and £50,000 per annum.
Assistant positions are suitable for those who come from a conveyancing or legal background and offer average salaries of around £17,000 a year. These supportive roles require excellent secretarial skills, such as audio typing and copy typing, and usually at least one or two years’ relevant experience.
Estate agents, who play more of a marketing role in the property business, need to have good selling and negotiating skills. Training is normally received on the job, with average salaries of between £20,000 and £30,000 per annum plus commission.
