The role of the data entry clerk is to enter various types of information into a company’s computer system. They will be expected to verify and decipher information that may be difficult to access or read. The management of the relevant software is an important function of the worker as well as the monitoring of systems and looking for improvements
Data entry clerks need to be able to operate computer software proficiently, which usually comes in the form of spreadsheets and database applications. It is also important that they have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Having knowledge of record-keeping systems and recognising the importance of confidentiality is also important, as well as the ability to work to deadlines. Data entry clerks usually have to be able to work quickly and accurately without making mistakes
The average salary for this position is £16,000 per year. No formal qualifications are required although it is usually essential for applicants to hold GCSEs in mathematics and English. It is also desirable for applicants to hold a bachelor’s degree or a computer related qualification. In-house training is usually provided, with the opportunity for employees to gain formal qualifications as part of their career development also available.
