Essential to the construction field is the site engineer, who is responsible for supervising a project through every phase until its completion.
Work duties typically entail obtaining required permits for on-site construction, ensuring each task is finished according to quality standards, identifying structural problems, providing sound solutions for any technical issues, addressing issues with any subcontractors in a timely way, following strict budget guidelines regarding materials and work hours and acting as the principal technical advisor to subcontractors and crafts people. Other important duties are levelling, surveying and setting out the project site; inspecting drawings and blueprints to get an accurate assessment of the project, ensuring that all materials are being used according to specifications, managing and monitoring the design of supplied contract documents, supervising the project site daily (including the labour force and the sub-contractors) and resolving any unexpected technical problems.
This person must demonstrate a strong ability to seek creative solutions to problems and present them to subcontractors as needed. Most employers require a university degree in architecture, management or construction, and experience as a construction foreperson or subcontractor is an advantage. The average salary for this position is typically £35,000 to £45,000 per year, depending on experience and employer.

Site Engineers oversee the activities on civil and structural engineering jobs. They do sketches, and revision of construction drawings, ensuring that designs are in keeping with compliance regulations and building codes. They supervise workers on a construction sites, including surveyors and different teams. They assist engineers, construction managers, architects, and sub-contractors.
