Geography Teacher

Geography teachers teach between four and seven lessons each day, with around 30 students in each class. Their role is to instruct students on both physical geography such as river systems and tectonic plates as well as human geography like population and tourism
Teachers are responsible for setting and marking coursework as well as preparing students for national examinations. They must oversee and record each student’s work throughout the year and discuss their progress with the student’s parents. While most work is conducted at the school of employment, candidates must be willing to work at home on occasions, as this is where most teachers make their lesson plans and mark students’ work.
Teaching geography in the UK requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in geography and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Teachers benefit from long holidays over the summer months as well as time off over Christmas and Easter.
Geography teachers can expect to earn between £16,000 and £38,000 per annum, with the opportunity for bonuses of up to £10,000.
