Private Chauffeur

A private chauffeur will often work exclusively with one client, and must often be on call to drive wherever and whenever they are required to do so. There are limited qualifications required for this job, although a clean driving license is necessary and a training course with the British Chauffeurs Guild is a clear advantage. This job requires the candidate to make the safety of their clients their highest priority at all times. The type of car driven is usually an expensive model, so a private chauffeur must take all precautions to avoid bumps and scrapes. Someone who has excellent map reading skills and a good knowledge of the local roads will be more attractive to cleints. Another important part of being a private chauffeur is to offer the client a high standard of customer service. This means being cordial and professional at all times and acting in a formal manner when the situation requires it (for example when your client has other passengers in the car). At other times a chauffeur may be expected to make small talk, so good communications skills and a friendly disposition are essential
It is also important to make sure the car is well serviced outside working hours. Private chauffeurs who possess additional skills like another language can make as much as £30,000 a year, although salaries usually begin from £8 per hour. Rates vary greatly depending on the client.
