Reporter

Newspapers, radio and television broadcasters and company magazines have reporters employed to bring news, events and interesting stories to their audience, which can be the entire nation or the factory staff. Whichever it is, it requires a good standard of writing and presentation skills which are generally learnt at a university which specialises in journalism. Cardiff University is one such location, and Bournemouth another. The reporter needs to have gained a BA in journalism as a starting point for getting a job in this field and then it’s a case of gaining experience.
A newspaper reporter with a provincial publication can expect to be earning a median salary of £25,000 to £30,000 with two years’ experience. The opportunities for higher earnings are getting better as independent news agencies flourish across the world, so relocating is something that has to be considered.
The top jobs are the ones with the national and international broadcasters and in this field, there have to be good people skills, as well as the ability to deliver a smooth presentation to camera. Interviewing is another skill which requires a probing and questioning mind.
