Sales consultants are the middlemen between companies and clients,promoting products and services and building long-term commercialrelationships. They may work on either an employed or self-employedbasis. Those working for employers often receive benefits and bonuses ontop of a set salary, while self-employed consultants work independently,setting their own hours and level of income
Key responsibilities include identifying and meeting customer needswithin their allotted sales territory, maintaining good after-salesrelationships, keeping records of customer appointments and completedsales, and providing detailed information on the products they areselling. It is also important for them to regularly update their productknowledge, as well as hone and develop their selling techniques
The most successful consultants provide a personalised service to theircustomers, establishing trust and taking a non-confrontational approachto selling.
Income is in the region of £15,000 to £30,000 but may be determined byseveral factors, including the number of hours worked, sales performanceand the degree of independency of the individual consultant.
Sales consultants work closely with customers throughout the salesprocess. They foster a successful relationship endearing the customer totheir business. These consultants handle any enquires produced by theclient, investigate the issue and provide the necessary feedback. Theywork hard to network and negotiate with potential clients about theirorders, generating revenue for the company.
Consultants process customer orders in a timely manner, ensuring theclients approval. They also work closely with other departments andteams, such as accounting and marketing. Sales consultants also usesales applications to update client information and requests. They oftenschedule appointments for sales representative and other consultants.Sales consultants keep normal office hours. They travel to clientlocations when needed.
