Special Needs

The main role of employees in the special needs sector is to socially and physically assist children and adults who are in need of extra attention. Successful applicants work in the fields of education and health, with key duties including organising and moderating the environment, assessing performances, arranging physical activities, and liaising with supervisors or managers
The job is demanding, and persons in this vocation must possess a number of important skills and attributes. Strong communication and listening skills are imperative, as is an ability to satisfactorily complete records or reports. Candidates must be able work as part of a team, have a strong understanding of personal care requirements, and maintain relationships with key people
A degree in the field of health care or its equivalent is recommended, and applicants with certification or accreditation in social work have an advantage. Experience is always a plus in the field of special needs. Salaries usually fall within the £25,000 to £30,000 range, but certain working environments and previous experience can increase this. A criminal records check is mandatory if working with children is included.
