Sports Development Officer

The primary duty of a sports development officer is to develop the participation in and the availability of sports programs within a particular community. Nevertheless, there are many other important features to this job, including the promotion of health awareness in a community, evaluating programmes and events for future improvement, and working in close collaboration with schools and government departments.
A successful sports development officer must be able to train coaches to develop programs, work in a close team environment, organise events and sport sessions, implement the latest technology and sports science research to improve the level of coaching, and communicate effectively. Knowledge of sports and health will also benefit candidates
Although starting salaries range from £15,000 to £20,000, those with several years experience can earn upwards of £35,000. Unfortunately, temporary contracts are common in this field, so the job security is quite low. A degree or advanced degree in sports science, leisure studies, physical education, or health and exercise sciences is not necessary but will be advantageous for applicants.
