Airline Pilot

An airline pilot is a glamorous and sought after profession. There are three paths to becoming an airline pilot. A person can either train in the armed forces and do a commercial airline conversion course upon leaving, get sponsorship for training from an airline company, or work their way through pilots licenses until they acquire a Commercial Pilot's License
The job holder will be working in a team of up to four other pilots each flight. They must check the aircrafts controls before flying, as well as studying the flight plans. The pilot must also calculate the fuel required for the journey and communicate with air traffic control. This person must also communicate regularly with their cabin crew throughout the journey, updating them on the status of the flight. At the end of the flight the aircraft's logbook must be updated
Airline pilots are expected to be confident and practical-minded employees who are safety conscious. They will usually work shift patterns, working unusual hours; but, according to industry standards, a pilot can work a maximum of 900 hours per year. Depending on the size of the airline company and the flights they control, a person in this role can make between £40,000 and £140,000 per year. People flying only internal flights, especially in the US, may earn significantly less, however.
