Collections
When someone defaults on a loan, the collections department steps in to recover the money and merchandise. Also known as debt collectors, these agents usually work for independent collection agencies or the original creditor like a credit card company or bank. This is a booming sector, with excellent job growth potential in the next decade
The most important quality to possess is good communication skills, because there is a high level of direct customer interaction. Much of the time is spent on the phone talking to clients who owe debt to a company. These individuals also use email and the postal service to keep in contact with delinquent customers
Most employers require a high school diploma, though a college degree will make it easier to move into management positions. Call centre experience is very valuable for securing a job in this field. The work environment can be stressful, as there are quotas to meet and uncooperative customers to deal with.
Most firms pay by the hour, with average wages ranging from £7 to £11 an hour.
