Kennel

Kennel workers are responsible for the care of dogs, cats and other domestic pets within a large kennel environment. Duties include feeding, cleaning, and exercising animal residents, with most employees working between the regular hours of 8:00 to 17:00 as well as covering emergency rosters if necessary. A candidate for the position is expected to work in close contact with the kennel manager or supervisor
The ability to multi-task is one of the most important attributes for those working in kennels. Employees must have a love for and understanding of animals, as well as good knowledge of basic care for dogs, cats and other domestic pets. Candidates must be flexible and willing to work on emergency call, as well as being able to give first aid or administer medical care to animals when necessary
Most kennel companies do not require applicants to have a degree, although proven experience in a similar field is usually required. Working in this environment can be an excellent learning opportunity for students studying veterinary science. Salaries are generally low, hovering at about £15,000 – £20,000 per year, although career advancement opportunities involving higher salaries do exist.
