What do I need to qualify as an art teacher?

I imagine you mean in terms of training, right? A Bachelor's Degree in education specialising in art. If you mean skills, well I've always thought that you need to have sensibility, but not necessarily to be able to produce art, because maybe your thing is more in the lines of art history...07-Jun-2017

Well, as an art teacher you should be able to produce artistic materials, otherwise it seems to me like it's a contradiction in terms, isn't it?07-Jun-2017

I don't agree, you need not be an artist to be able to teach art, you need to know the techniques, which is not quite the same, don't you think?07-Jun-2017

I agree with you Ines. To teach art history and to appreciate it you needn't be an artist yourself, and to teach art, from a more practical point of view, you need to master the techniques, but I don't see being able to produce a work of art is a must.07-Jun-2017

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I sincerely think that to teach art you've got to be able to produce art, otherwise, to me, it's a scam.07-Jun-2017
