Network Administrator
The Network Administrator is responsible for the administration and operation of a company’s email, internal networks, network security systems, and servers. This individual configures, sets up, and maintains all new internal server systems required for a company’s activities and is also in charge of firewall administration and the company’s overall IT security.
Typical tasks may include providing phone and email support to internal users as well as maintaining an inventory of equipment and purchases. This person is often expected to develop system standards for network devices and schedule repairs to the LAN/WAN. Predicting any necessary upgrades and budgeting for any changes is also a common responsibility.
To apply for this position, you must show a working knowledge of various operating systems such as Windows 2000/2003, Exchange, and Citrix. You should also have a strong understanding of basic computer hardware components, major networking components, and network operating systems. Secondary school GCSE and higher qualifications and/or relevant certification are typically required. This position usually pays around £30,000 per year.
