Jobs for over 60s Anthony Last updated by Maurice: 01-Nov-2017
Why is it so difficult today to find work once you’re past 60? I don’t understand why experience seems to count for nothing these days. I’m 61 and I’ve got a lot to offer and I still have a great capacity to learn. It feels so not on

I sometimes think that today everything has become disposable, experience earned over years of work is disposable, especially if it’s not to do with management or with new technologies.

I agree, though I must say I was in management myself, but there doesn’t seem to be a job for me now anyway... I feel that employment at all levels has become like a whirlwind and it does not look after human assets anymore, unless there’s an immediate short term return, really unwise!

I am now 64, got made redundant in May 2016 and find it very hard to find a job, there is supposed tone no to age discrimination but get replies like 'over qualified' which I have learnt is the new term for being to old or over the hill, on the scrapheap!!. All I want is to find a job, whether permanent or part time, just something to keep myself occupied and my brain working.

Apprenticeships for over 60s Sheila Last updated by Anna: 31-Oct-2017
After years working in an office with loads of pressure and tasks, I had to give up work to look after my elderly mum. She passed away nearly 4 months ago. I’ve decided to go back to work because I feel I’ve still got loads to contribute. To get up to date with the latest developments, especially in the technological aspect, I’m trying to get an internship and kill two birds with one stone. No luck!

I don’t mean to be negative, but people like you and I don’t have it easy. I’ve been trying for a while now, and it’s proving to be a tough stage. Very few interviews, in fact just one, and they initially had not paid attention to my age. Once they interviewed me, they told me they’d contact me with their feedback. Their response came as a sorry you didn’t make it to the final part of the selection process. Though I tried, I couldn’t get any feedback as to why my application had not succeeded.
