Pharmacology
The field of pharmacology requires a number of skilled professionals in the effort of effectively and properly distributing medical supplies and drugs to the public.
Among the most common positions in this field are pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants. The role of the pharmacist as well as the technicians working directly alongside them is to fill prescriptions, liaise with doctors and medical professionals, and provide related advice and instructions to consumers. Assistants, also known as dispensing assistants, provide assistance in the form of inventory control, labelling and various ad hoc duties
Every pharmacology post requires official certification in the UK, generally via the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in addition to a university education, with the exception of pharmacy assistants, who must complete Level 2 NVQ certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills training and testing
Pharmacy assistants generally make between £11,000 and £20,000 per annum and pharmacy technicians typically see figures from around £20,000 to £30,000 per annum. Pharmacists can make as much as £50,000 per annum, though figures start in the low to mid-£20,000 range for newly qualified individuals.
