Product Designer

Skilled workers known as product designers are crucial to the manufacturing, retail, scientific and medical industries, in that they utilise a number of creative techniques and engineering skills to shape and design a wide range of products. Such products may be marketed for mass use or may only be produced on a small scale. Items can range from toys, homeware and appliance to medical tools and cars or anything in between
The job requires a diverse range of skills as the designer must find an appropriate balance of function, aesthetics, safety and other factors. They must fully understand the production process and the use of materials. Individuals working in this role generally have a bachelor’s degree in product design, engineering, architecture or industrial design
The average salary for a product designer working in the UK is around £42,000 per year. Highly experienced designers typically receive figures above £50,000 per year while entry-level posts are likely fetch figures just over £30,000 per year.
