Telecommunications

Telecommunications covers a wide range of areas and involves service in the internet, video and voice communications fields. In the past, the industry would deal primarily with land line or wired communications; however, recently specialised services such as cable, wireless, internet and satellite services have become part of the sector
Job profiles can vary. For example, maintenance workers carrying out repair work with cable lines and ensure that they are operating properly. Installers also maintain and repair equipment and cables; as well as rearranging switching and dialing equipment.
Engineers are required to carry out higher-level jobs and make sure the equipment is functioning properly. They may also help plan cables routes as well as install other equipment. Customer service workers are also a major part of this job; they provide emergency assistance and explain technical details to customers
Higher-level jobs will require a Masters or Bachelors degree in engineering. Otherwise, a diploma from institutes that teach professional courses are sufficient Pay scales will vary in telecommunications. However, an engineer can earn an average salary of £35,000 in the UK.
