The role of a beautician is to provide expert personal care services to clients with regard to skin, hair and nails. He or she helps not only with the application of treatments but also with advising and recommending appropriate services via client consultations. Many in this position will specialise in a specific area, such as makeup or nails, whilst those focusing on hair often go by the title of hairdresser
This position requires robust communication skills, creative flair, excellent eye-hand coordination and the ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure. Proper training is essential; many individuals begin via apprenticeship positions and certification is available through numerous beauty colleges
The average salary for a UK-based beautician is about £16,000 per annum, though in Inner London the figure is slightly higher. Nationwide, figures can begin at as low as £10,000 for apprenticeship posts, whilst experienced and successful individuals may see salaries in the range of £25,000 per annum.

These professionals are entrusted with the care of people’s skin, face and body and they help to make them relax by employing different treatment options. Many work in hotels, ships, beauty clinics, beauty salons, and health spas and incorporate different treatments such as reflexology, aromatherapy and hydrotherapy.
There is a significant difference in remuneration if beauticians aspire to become Managers. They will have more responsibilities and longer hours, but they will earn a much better income.

There are various Beauty institutions that offer certification in Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Cosmetics, Therapy Management, Salon and Spa Management and Spa and Therapy Management. Beauticians can also start by initially working with Senior Therapists or Beauticians.
