In the UK lorry drivers are much in demand. They are responsible for transporting goods around the country or internationally. To join one of the 300,000 qualified members of this profession, an applicant will need to hold a LGV license in category C or category C+E; the former only applies to smaller lorries. Job holders will also need to pass a professional competence test every five years. On top of this, a candidate needs to pass a medical test to secure work
The day-to-day duties of this job are to load goods from the headquarters, make sure they are secure, and then drive the goods to their destination. Once a driver has arrived, they will normally be expected to unload the goods and check the receiver is content with the delivery, making a note of any problems
On top of holding the necessary qualifications, a person in this role will need to be a good map reader and someone who can handle manual labour. A lorry driver will not be able to drive for more than nine hours a day by law. Applicants should expect to make between £14,000 and £35,000 a year.
