An expert tiler is able to install tiles that will stand the tests of time and endure. Proficient tilers are required for contracts and jobs in industrial and retail premises, on new housing estates or for general refurbishment of existing buildings.
Applicants for full-time or short-term tiling contracts are expected to be able to clean and prepare floor or wall surfaces, measure the area and use plumb-lines, attach the tiles in the exact pattern with the correct adhesive, use specific tile cutting tools, fill gaps with grout and then clean and polish the completed tiles.
Candidates should preferably have completed a six-week City and Guilds Wall and Floor Tiling course. An on-the-job NVQ assessment qualification is an added bonus for prospective employees. Work is available affixing terrazzo, granolithic and ceramic tiles. For most positions, applicants need a current UK driving licence and two references.
Salaries for full-time positions can be as high as £30,000 a year, while contracts pay at around £12.00 an hour, with extra travel allowances. Posts can be found in most parts of the UK, but incumbents are often required to travel to work sites.
