Working mainly in hospitals and the community, the nurse practitioner is responsible for assessing, examining, diagnosing as well as evaluating the treatment of patients. Planning the clinical care and prescribing medicines, treatments and vaccinating patients is also required. The role includes promoting health and fitness, as well as family planning and sexual health.
The nurse practitioner will be a first level nurse MSc or equivalent, have a relevant nursing degree, plus experience in clinical supervision training along with years of post registration experience. The NP has to possess exceptional communication skills, be accountable for their own role and others in the nursing field, be a good negotiator, and be a great leader. The nurse practitioner can expect a salary based on experience and qualifications, in a range from £20,300 to £36,200. Bonuses and a good pension scheme are also available.
