Pharmacists are required to develop new medicines thanks to their knowledge about specific uses of these products. They have four main areas of work including industrial, primary care, community, and hospital pharmacy. Pharmacists dedicated to community also supply and sell medicines and most of them work for health centres or retail outlets.

Pharmacists usually perform many of the following tasks:
• Advising people on minor ailments.
• Selling general medicines.
•   Storing products securely.
• Keeping computer records.
• Training and supervising staff.

• Having competent business skills.
• Being precise and accurate.
• Being able to train and supervise other members.
• Having good communication abilities.
• Being patient to deal with people.
• Being methodical.
• Having strong scientific understanding.
• Being able to prioritise projects.
• Having good memory.
• Having competent computer skills.

The basic background for Pharmacist jobs is to have a degree in pharmacy. People can choose among 25 schools approved by the RPSGB, studying four-year full time. Pharmacy degree requires five GCSE’s (A
*-C) and three A levels or equivalent qualifications as a minimum. Chemistry and other science subject must be among A levels. Most universities have different requirements for these courses, so it is recommended to check every case.

There are other qualifications needed before application such as a pre registration training course in pharmacy, a four-year Master of Pharmacy degree and a registration exam.
