Cleaners are found everywhere; in our homes, schools, and businesses. They are the ones that ensure that we can operate in an hygienic environment. They clean everywhere and everything, removing dust, spills, garbage and other unwanted particles. Those cleaners who work in the home environment may perform other tasks.
There areas of specialisation in cleaning. Like those that clean drains, sewage, air conditioning or ventilation systems, vehicles, air planes, machines or even roadways. One famous job is that of Window Cleaners which can be seen at high levels on buildings in the cities.
A Cleaner usually performs many of the following tasks:
• Getting rid of garbage
• Removing stains from carpets and upholstery
• Washing linen
• Taking care of pest and insects
• Implementing health and safety regulations
• Handling chemicals and cleaning agents

• Being observant and thorough
• Being physically capable
• Communication, math and reading
• Customer service and sound judgement
• Efficiency and discretion
• Honesty and integrity
• Motivation and flexibility
• Respect and professionalism
• Time management and multitasking
• Understanding and following safety rules
• Understanding of health and safety regulations

There is no educational requirement for being a cleaner. This is a manual job and it is more important to have the physical stability and skills to do the job. Many employers allow their employees to begin as apprentices, learning the job from more experienced professionals. Some apprentices begin directly after completing high school, starting out with NVQs, GCSEs, BTECs, or HND qualifications. Some specialized cleaners may have a minor certification in the area they are practising.
