Generally a mechanical fitter will work in a production plant, building and fitting parts of machinery that are needed in the workplace.
The candidate’s job may also include working in the plumbing, electrical and hydraulics field, building and dismantling equipment. Since they will work with dangerous machinery, a person in this role is responsible for the team’s safety whilst on the job.
The skills required for a mechanical fitter are excellent hand-eye coordination, the capability to problem solve and a logical and analytical mind. Further more, the candidate will need to possess the ability to work on their own and as a part of a team, since many mechanics from different areas often work on the same project.
Employers will expect the candidate to have undergone appropriate vocational training in a further education college or equivalent before applying for the job. The average salary for this job is between £17,000 and £27,000.
