Library assistant - formal training vs experience
Moving from a small village in the south west where I worked as a library assistant to Birmingham. I’m told that things are different in bigger cities like Birmingham. I have a Level 2 GCSE, and I’m told that to continue working in a library in Birmingham I’m going to need specific training. Do 15yrs experience don’t count?

Qualifications in information and library services are a plus as far as I know. Your best bet is to go straight to the source and see what they request.16-Feb-2017

Thanks Riley, will do. I hope my experience counts, otherwise i’d find it very frustrating and definitely very unfair.17-Feb-2017

I have no specific training and 20yrs experience and i haven’t been told that i have to take any further training. I’d do it if they asked, i would actually love it :-) I love the job, though the wages could be a bit better.20-Feb-2017
