The event manager performs a key role in the organisation of events such as exhibitions, fairs and conferences. The position requires excellent communication skills, in order to manage the event team, as well as first-class organisational abilities. An attention to detail is a must, while someone who works with a hands-on approach is particularly suitable for this position
These positions can be found across all sectors, including positions in private, public and charitable organisations. Some positions are offered by specialist event-planning firms, while others are offered by companies which plan their own events. Those with plenty of experience in the field might even consider going down the freelance route
All graduates are free to pursue a position in the field, but it’s a great advantage to have a degree or HND in a subject such as leisure and tourism, business or event management. Those with considerable experience (more than 10 years) should find that their position is well-paid. Salaries for this latter group tend to range from £50,000 to £70,000, but those individuals starting out as event managers will get considerably less than this.
