Bus drivers are required to drive buses in order to transport passengers from one place to another. They are responsible for the safety and comfort of their clients while they travel on bus. They transport people through local routes, making scheduled stops to pick up and drop off passengers. These drivers can also transport communities, hospital patients, elderly people, and schoolchildren to different destinations.

Every job placement involving bus driving requires a special licence, so Bus Driver applicants needs to have a PCV licence for this purpose. This licence requires a full UK driving licence first. Trainee drivers must be over 18 or 21 years old and have a clean driving history. Some companies offer PCV training schemes for entrants, in other cases individuals who wish to have their own lessons to obtain this type of licence must contact the Driving Standards Agency.

Further exams for people working on this area are the Certificate of Professional Competence with 35 training hours every five years and several SVQ’s and NVQ’s related to coach and bus industry.
