Architectural Technicians are required to provide architectural design solutions and services on different construction projects. These professionals develop architectural projects and manage the process from beginning to completion. These technicians also collect reports related to performance of construction projects from people using the building as a feedback process. They team up with other professionals like architects.

Architectural Technicians usually perform many of the following tasks:

• Presenting design proposals
• Completing site surveys.

• Being aware on how spaces and buildings are used.

• Having freehand drawing skills.

• Having math skills.
• Being able to interpret technical drawings.
• Having a logical approach.

Many employers offering Architectural Technician jobs also offer apprenticeship schemes. Candidates for these courses must be over 16 or 18 years old and have four GCSE´s/S grades (A-C/1-3) in Science, Math, English, Engineering, Design Technology, Art and Applied ICT. Other job placements require candidates with previous academic awards such as a Higher National Diploma or a Higher National Certificate in Architectural Technology or Architectural Design. These courses require three GCSE’s/S grades (A-C/1-3) or two A levels/two H grades.

Apprenticeship schemes have awards available including BTEC/SQA or NVQ/SVQ awards. Examples of these qualifications are the BTEC/SQA in Architectural Design or Architectural Technology and the NVQ/SVQ level 4 in Architectural Technology.
