Essential to the upkeep of any large building is the facilities assistant, who works under a facilities coordinator in maintaining the core services and systems within an office building or classroom. A person in this position may need to be competent in effecting minor repairs and building maintenance and in regulating the heating/ventilating/air conditioning systems
Office based duties such as updating inventory records, providing administrative support to the facilities management department or interfacing with insurance brokers to ensure proper insurance cover will usually be part of this position. The assistant will also be called upon to act as the point of contact when the facilities coordinator is unavailable.
Interested applicants should be ready to demonstrate (at least) high school qualifications, excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and computer literacy (particularly proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets). Although not all employers require prior experience, in most instances, it is preferred.
Applicants can expect to make around £14,500 per year, depending on experience and employer.
