Biomedical Scientists are required to do tests involving body fluid and body tissue samples to help doctors diagnosing and treating different types of diseases. They mostly work for National Health Service laboratories, where they use computers, microscopes and other laboratory equipment to perform their tasks. There are specialisation areas including clinical chemistry, haematology, cellular pathology, medical microbiology, immunology, among others.

Biomedical scientists usually perform many of the following tasks:

• Working with nurses and doctors.

Biomedical Scientist jobs require applicants to have a degree. It is recommended to have a course from The Institute of Biomedical Science. Requirements for these types of degrees are five GCSE’s/S grades (A-C/1-3) and two A levels/three H grades including Chemistry, Biology and Math as a minimum.

Biomedical Scientists need to be registered with the Health Professions Council. This association requires members to have one year of training in an approved laboratory and a biomedical science degree accredited by The Institute of Biomedical Science.
