Although no formal qualifications are needed to be a warehouse supervisor, often this position is filled by an experienced warehouse operative, and it is possible to take an NVQ in Warehousing and Storage, which will enhance the chances of promotion to this position. An applicant might also be required to hold a forklift qualification
The basic duties of a warehouse supervisor are to co-ordinate the warehouse operatives in order to prepare the goods inside the warehouse for shipment to customers or to company sales outlets. They must also monitor the levels of stock, and organise the warehouse so different items are easy to find and are clearly labelled. I person in this role will be required to liaise with the sales team or store managers in order to find out what stock is needed
The job requires someone with solid organisational skills, who can manage a team of warehouse operatives efficiently to make sure goods go out at the right time to the right people. On average, this job will earn the individual £20,000 a year.
