Also known as a soil scientist, the environmental scientist will be required to attend sites, collect information, interpret and evaluate it, as well as writing reports on the effect that climate change, human health, environmental quality and agricultural production is having on a particular area.
Often working closely with councils, new developments and regional councils, the scientist will conduct research for many public and private sector institutions, and help with landscape design, forensic science and conservation activities. Computing skills and report writing skills are required, as well as excellent communication skills
The ideal candidate will have relevant experience and be educated with a BSc or MSc in Environmental Science, Geochemistry or Hydrology. In many cases, there will be a requirement to stay overnight at a site and to attend remote settings; therefore a driving license is sometimes required.
The average annual salary for an environmental scientist depends on experience, but starts at £18,304, going up to around £29,479 for a more senior or supervisory role.
