Duties include conceptualising visually appealing displays for stores in order to increase profit. Key accountabilities include introducing new items and promoting a positive store image. A visual merchandiser uses printed signage, lighting and merchandise in order to lure customers into the store. Areas that are utilised include window displays, entranceways, the sides of buildings and store layout
Candidates need to pay attention to detail and have good organisation skills. Other requirements for this position are creativity, a good imagination and design skills. This job requires knowledge of light, colour and texture as marketing tools.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in visual merchandising or a related field. Experience in retail stores or marketing is beneficial. Salaries increase with experience and range from £20,000 to £30,000 a year.
