The primary role of an assistant editor is to administratively and linguistically support editors in reviewing articles or documents, depending on what editing field the applicant is applying for. An assistant editor must be able to work under the pressure of deadlines, have strong skills in creative writing, use updated computer software, and analyse articles for improvements.
A person in this role must have a degree in the field of journalism or English. In addition, experience in the editorial industry, including in journalism, editorial research and copy editing, is advantageous. An assistant editor is required to complete office reports on writers, and provide constructive feedback
Persons in this role are usually on a base salary of about £20,000 per year. However, with experience?especially within the same company?advancement opportunities usually come about, increasing the salary substantially.
