Site Managers are required to supervise and organise daily work on a building site. They are in control of all operations, including progress, planning, labour relations, and cost planning. These managers team up with other professionals like sub contractors, consultants and client’s representatives in order to make sure that the job is completed within budget and on time.

Site Managers usually perform many of the following tasks:

Site Manager jobs have two ways for candidates to enter to the application process. One way are the apprenticeship schemes for school leavers or ConstructionSkills for Skillseekers. These courses require Highers or Standard grades including Science, Math, English, and a technological subject. The other main way is through a degree, Higher National Diploma or a Higher National Certificate in relevant subjects such as architecture, building surveying, construction management, civil engineering, or construction.

People working on this area can obtain a SVQ Level 3 in Site Supervision and Level 4 in Construction Site Management Building and Civil Engineering. They can also become members of the Chartered Institute of Building by having a professional development programme and SVQ Level 4 or 5 or a relevant degree for this industry.
