Offering medical care to animals and pets is the responsibility of a Veterinary Surgeon. They often take care of dogs, cats, pigs, horses, lions, elephants or even rabbits. Some Vets work in areas where there are mainly zoo animals, or farm animals, aquatic animals or arctic animals.
In the case where an animal may be too large to bring into the clinic, or too ill to move; these doctors make house calls or visit the animals wherever they are. Some may specialise and work at zoos, farms, aquariums, horse ranch, and any other place that keeps animals. They may have to work alone or with a team; giving the best care to their patients.
This job can be demanding and requires an individual who is very flexible and compassionate. The income is good as well. There are many Veterinary Surgeons and jobs are available with many government, public and private organisations
A Veterinary Surgeon usually performs many of the following tasks:

There are many schools, like the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), that offer Veterinary courses. Degree courses differ and may include specialisations in Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Science. Individuals should be prepared for the extended period in which it might take to complete their studies; which is up to six years. After completing training, a professional Vet should seek to be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). All other requirements such as physical stamina, health and capability must also be attained.
