Biologist

Biologists work in a wide variety of organisations, ranging from academic institutions to pharmaceutical firms and non-profit organisations. Work for these professionals typically takes place in laboratory environments, particularly for biochemists and those involved in the development of pharmaceutical and medical products, which is among the most common posts in the field. Additionally, biology professionals are also often employed in the effort of monitoring land and water use and environmental effects on living organisms whilst providing expert advice to companies and government agencies regarding biological resources
There are many different areas of specialisation for biologists; there are zoologists, botanists, virologists, physiologists, ecologist and biochemists, among others. Most positions associated with biology demand advanced degrees; a Bachelors typically is not sufficient, although some employers may recruit such individuals for internship/work-study programs.
The average salary for a UK-based biologist is in the range of about £37,000 a year, though figures can begin below £30,000 for entry-level posts and extend well over £45,000-a-year for highly desirable positions.
