Inbound call centre jobs are usually based outside London in the provinces, Scotland or Ireland. Handling inbound calls from customers on a variety of issues from complaints, to information through orders and information, call centre staff normally work in shifts. Inbound call representatives deal with the troubleshooting of problems and, most importantly, do their best to resolve complaints about the company’s products or services. Training in specific software is usually given to new employees
Teamwork ability and good computer skills in the relevant applications are essential to the job, with skills in telephone communication and use of the scripts developed by the CR manager a necessity. During a shift, depending on the department, varying tasks from taking orders, dealing with order enquiries, payments, refunds and technical questions may need to be dealt with. The ability to work under pressure is essential in this job
Call centre jobs are not the best paid, but can be part- as well as full-time, suitable for students or working mothers. Expect a wage of around £8 an hour part-time or around £16,000 for full-time work.
