Kitchen Porter

Kitchens are busy places with chefs, assistants, washers and ancillary workers all having a part to play in the smooth operation of a good catering facility. The kitchen porter is a necessary cog in the kitchen wheel and as such the job is active and busy. An ability to carry out instructions and respond quickly to the needs of the staff is a very important aspect in the range of duties
The kitchen porter is expected to collect items from the store rooms and accept new deliveries in the loading area. Applicants are required to have the relevant food safety certificates and to be willing to go on the appropriate health and safety courses. This is an important aspect of the work, so employers are looking for an individual who can think on their feet. A porter’s salary is based around an hourly rate of up to £7, with increases dependent on good reports and assessments.

  • It’s stressful working in a kitchen? Isaac

I've always loved cooking and I’d like working with stoves, food and kitchen aprons. It’s very stressful? It is clear that all jobs have some degree of stress. But I have the idea that this should be too much ... What do you say?

    • Sam:

Restaurants and their kitchens are very stressful places. People go there and pay money to be served and give themselves a treat, and on most occasions they're very demanding. I have worked in 2 different kitchens, plenty of stress there, but you get a feel good sensation when all your plates turn out well and dinner guests walk away satisfied. personally I find it worthwhile.
