  • Long distance van driver job conditions Last updated by Rick: 22-Feb-2018

I’ve been a delivery van driver for just a couple of months after 5 years working in a warehouse as fork lifter. I’ve come to realise that long distance driving would suit me fine as my family situation has changed radically recently. What is stopping me, though, is that I’m being told that I can be expected to work for +12h daily and with just a break for meals. Does anybody know how it works?!

    • Welcome to the club! By law you can’t be asked to work for more that 11h a day. You need to have a tachograph for that purpose. Sometimes a weekly record sheet is accepted. About the breaks, you have to stop for a min 30 after 5h at the wheel, another option is 45 min in breaks within a period of 8h driving, plus at the end of the 8h you need to take a 30 min break. Best
