In the modern life can I earn good money as a painter if I am not very famous? Or it should be more like a hobby?

I've a friend who's doing very well as a painter, really well! I guess it depends on your skill and your ability to work well and give good advice. He tells me clients appreciate a clean job, so he always makes a point of not leaving the place in a mess. He's also forever trying new styles (he uses an old warehouse for that) and then he can recommend them to his clients.

On the other hand if you're good, nowadays a painter, electrician, plumber .. can do really well, sometimes better that other more qualified professionals.
