Phlebotomy
Phlebotomy technicians deal closely with many areas within hospitals, taking and accepting blood from all wards and performing tests on the blood. Donor blood is then distributed to the relevant people, usually in A&E or ICUs
A phlebotomist’s primary duty is to draw blood, usually in a hospital or at blood donor stations around the country. The role requires a driver's license, the ability to work nights and weekends, and diagnosis of the blood once it is drawn.
A good level of interpersonal skills and communication skills is required when dealing with the public and those working in this area should be fully qualified in phlebotomy, with a relevant professional certificate or degree. The role requires a confident person that can calm distressed patients, and one possessed of a steady hand
Phlebotomy technicians can expect an average salary of £23,200 depending on where in the UK the job is. In London, for example, the salary will be around £28,000.
