Process Operator

Essential to the inner workings of a chemical plant is the process operator, who controls and operates all plant facilities as safely and efficiently as possible according to quality specifications. This person must ensure optimal production quality and quantity while upholding the goals and policies of the company.
Typical duties include preparing to initiate a chemical process, starting up the process, monitoring and maintaining the process, shutting down the process and controlling and monitoring all plant equipment. A person in this job will also be expected to take field readings and diagnose technical faults, prepare the work site for maintenance, reinstate the work site after maintenance, clean and prepare equipment and measure and mix chemicals in reaction tanks.
Most employers require a degree in engineering or manufacturing, while others accept certificates in applied science or engineering technology. The average salary for these individuals is between £14,000 and £18,500 per year, and this amount rises with experience.
