Window Fitter

Experienced window fitters are valued for their abilities to install windows in houses and commercial premises with the minimum of fuss and upheaval. A proficient fitter is able to turn their hand to all branches of the trade
The successful candidate is expected to be able to install windows on new premises and replace traditional sash windows on older structures as well as ensure all work is 100 per cent weatherproof. A conscientious worker will then ensure that all old frames, glass and fittings are correctly taken away and disposed of
Applicants for such a post do not need academic qualifications, but numeracy and an ability to measure and fit installations correctly are essential. Candidates with CSCS cards or who have completed an Edexcel Introductory Course are usually given preference. Most employers require incumbents to hold a current UK driving license
There are positions open in most of the major cities and urban areas of the UK. Salaries range from around £13,000 for mates to around £22,000 per annum for those with experience. Overtime is often available, especially on jobs with forthcoming deadlines.

  • Window Fitter Chus

Do I have to take formal training in order to work as a window fitter?

    • Ralph:

Not really, at least not in all cases. You can sometimes be employed as an apprentice and get your experience as you go along. The NVQ diploma is something you can always get, it’s often completed in the workplace and basically certifies you your competency standards. Having it may be a plus when it comes to working for certain companies.
