Writer

A writer may work for an in-house magazine, a website, a broadcaster or any one of a whole raft of publishers producing books to brochures. Employers range from marketing and public relations companies to web publishers and newspapers. It’s a wide-open profession which has some need for qualifications but often depends on the incumbent’s writing style, creativity and perseverance.
Book publishers will commission a writer to work on a publication once they have seen examples of their previous work. A track record is important and many writers gain that by submitting work on a freelance basis.
An in-house writer will need to have a degree level education and be very proficient in word processing and English language skills. There are courses in creative writing, however, and a degree is not always necessary if a writer’s style if naturally acceptable. Being able to write both technically and creatively is a useful asset and one which lends itself to web content writing, which is becoming a much sought after skill globally. Pay varies greatly depending on whether the job holder is working on a freelance basis or being paid a salary.
