Trainee Bus Driver

The trainee bus driver is taken on by a bus company to complete a series of driving tests in order for them to become a full time member of the bus company’s team. It is a job that requires a driving license with no more than three penalty points.
A bus-driving instructor will train the job holder how to drive all types of buses, from minibuses to double-deckers. Once they feel the trainee has mastered the controls of the bus and can drive in a safe manner, a person in this role will be put forward to take the BTEC qualification. Upon passing this test and having received customer relations training, this person will be ready to work. Trainee bus driver will usually be on probation for the first three months and might also receive some supplementary training during this time. A person fulfilling this role will receive close to minimum wage, moving up to around £11 per hour once they have passed the BTEC. The job holder will also usually receive additional benefits, such as life assurance, a decent pension and free public travel.
